The theme we have picked up for this year's Christmas weekend service is Homecoming. What has Christmas got to do with homecoming when so many of our neighbours have no place to lay their heads? But we remember, neither did Jesus.

He was born under make-shift conditions, never felt quite at home in this world and for the few years we know Him best for, He essentially crashed from place to place. But all that was for a rescue and a homecoming that would put an end to the suffering we see on our doorsteps today.

The birth of Jesus triggered the most lavish offering of gifts from an unlikely group: the Magi. These were magicians and astrologers, not exactly Biblically-approved vocations. And yet they waited and watched for Jesus, and when the time came, they brought their very best. Church, this Advent, we can bring excuses or bring our very best, but we can't bring both.

Waiting and longing are inseparable parts of Advent. But as we anticipate our Saviour, what exactly are we longing for? When we consider our hopes, do they sometimes look like we're still awaiting an earthly king with earthly ways? What does longing for a king like Jesus look like?

December is here and Christmas is right around the corner! Last week we begin our three-part Advent Series and remember those awkward, uncertain years when God's people waited for the coming of a Saviour. All around them, bright hopes would fizz and pop. How do you hold on to hope when it keeps getting dashed? Join us, as we enter the most wonderful time of the year.

A welcoming church goes far beyond happy fist-bumps at the entrance. Its wellspring is that God Himself welcomes us and includes us in His family. And so, a truly welcoming culture permeates well past our Sunday mornings together. Let's discover more from this sermon podcast.

In His earthly ministry, Jesus modeled to us what it looks like to be honest, open and unvarnished. He never had to front or save face or manicure a clean public image. As His body, God longs for the church to be the same. This week, we look at what it means for us to be an Authentic Church.

We believe that where Jesus is King, a new order is in place. And where Jesus rules, the miraculous is entirely possible. But what are miracles, signs and wonders for? And what kind of environment would stir or stifle it? Surely we must know if we are called by God to be a miraculous church!
